Character name: Ciel Phantomhive
Fandom: Kuroshitsuji
Timeline: After the Circus ark
Age: 13
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Magical? HAH. Nothing magical about this kid without his butler. Other than being a class A brat and a decent manipulator, nothing special.
How would they use their abilities?: Ciel will be using his 'abilities' to make it. Probably get all fussy, and barely make a dime. SORRY KURO-CANON EARTH. YOU'RE BONED.
Appearance: A young, short lad at the age of 13. His depicted to have a silver-blue head of well groomed hair and pristine skin. He's been able to pass off as a female due to his inherently pretty features. Ciel also wears an eyepatch over his right eye to hide the contract forged by Sebastian. He's a well-dressed little rich kid. Let's do this, Thor.
Background/Personality:
Hah, the best question is where do we begin to describe this kid's personality? Just a note, I'll be stealing a few particularly well written lines from my vatheon application. Words are mine, I swear. <3
I guess we start from the beginning. Ciel Phantomhive was born to Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive, a wealthy family in the Victorian era. Flashbacks have shown the boy to smile brightly, with honest and pure eyes--not so the case now. He lived a happy, carefree life until he reached the age of 10 years old, when everything went downhill. On his tenth birthday, Ciel's parents and family dog were murdered, his home set ablaze, and he was kidnapped and sold off to the occult as a slave. He spent a month in this capture, being abused in every possible manner.
On the day he was to be sacrificed, Ciel's rage and inner turmoil summoned a vicious demon, whom he immediately signs a contract with. His soul for the demon's service. One by one, his attackers were swiftly killed, and eventually, Ciel and his new employee leave that wretched place and begin the journey home. He tells the demon to never betray him and never leave his side.
Ciel orders the demon to take the form of a humble butler, and even gives him the name of Sebastian, the name of the family dog. If that doesn't key someone in to his personality... The Phantomhive home is rebuilt, down to every little detail, and Ciel takes over as the Phantomhive heir, taking the title of 'Earl' and 'Queen's Watchdog'. Three additional servants are hired, Bard, Finnian, and MeiLing.
Welp, that's the backstory of the series. Now, we get into the meat and potatoes of this app!
Due to these horrible events, Ciel Phantomhive ... is warped. And he has every reason to be, really! The thing to understand most about Ciel is that nearly everything he does... it's all in the name of revenge. Revenge for his parent's murder, revenge for the brutalities he faced during his month-long capture, ...etc. Keeping this in mind will make him much more understandable.
I really don't want to give a full synopsis of the manga, as it is long and confusing. But the important parts are... well... important to note, as many of them have a very big part in Ciel's ever confusing personality. I think the first important thing to hit is the Jack the Ripper arc. Ciel is called upon to investigate a rather disgusting set of murders--basically, women having their reproductive organs removed. During the main arc of this investigation, Ciel comes to find that his Aunt, Angelina Durless (better known as Madame Red) is behind the lot of the murders. But it's not just her. The Shinigami, Grell, is in cohorts with Madame Red. Grell runs Madame Red through the chest with his Shinigami weapon when she refuses to kill Ciel, killing her.
Enraged, Ciel calls on Sebastian to fight the Shinigami. When Sebastian outsmarts him, and tries to kill him, he is stopped by William T. Spears. The two return to the manor. Ciel's personality does not really change due to this event, however, he does have a new enemy to contend with. The Shinigami. During her funeral, Ciel busts in during the ceremony with a bright red dress and lays it over her--as unorthodox as it was. Still, this is an important event to note.
Ciel comes off as a cold-hearted, independent, and even calloused at times. He can be extremely manipulative, persuasive, and often will be using his demon butler Sebastian as an intimidation tactic. He even comes off as heartless, claiming that whatever action he takes, be it for the Queen or his own personal interest, it is for the overall goal of revenge for his family’s murder.
He is more than capable, however, as coming across has a happy and easy going individual when in the company of certain people, particularly Elizabeth, his betrothed. Or particularly, the circus folk, who give him the circus name of Smile. This circus arc is another one of those events that's extremely important to note, due to it being Ciel's canon point. The Circus arc revolves around.. well.. a circus. Ciel and Sebastian disguise themselves as circus performers! So they join this circus, Ciel gets a nickname, and seems to make a few good friends in the process! As weird as they are! Right?
lolnope.
It is merely an act, used to get information on missing children. When on his own, or investigating with Sebastian, he reverts to a more callous and calculating state. This shows that Ciel can turn on and off the charm. He and Sebastian end up finding out about all the missing children and guess what?
Same guy who had him kidnapped? He's the one behind it. The place where he was taken to be sacrificed? It's the same place.
Oh, that does not work well for this guy. Ciel kind of loses his mind during this time, and orders Sebastian to kill the doctor and the Baron, the ones who caused him so much pain, and then to burn down the manor. Even with the missing children inside. So Sebastian does! This whole arc was interesting because during the time Ciel and Sebastian were exploring the Baron's home, the circus performers were exploring the Phantomhive manor. And we all know that the remaining servants, MeiLing, Bard, and Finnian, are not just servants. Their badasses. The performers end up meeting their end at the Phantomhive manor.
This event shook Ciel to his core. Coming back to such a place... During the mishap, he ended up having a massive panic attack (Who wouldn't?) and Sebastian had to talk him out of it. It would seem the act of setting the entire manor ablaze was a true moment of insanity. Or maybe pity. I feel like Ciel didn't want those kids to experience the aftereffects of his own fate, knowing they were meant for the same. After this event (Where Ciel is taken from) he seems to focus more intently on his revenge.
WOO. NOW RANDOM TRAITS.
Ciel is often insulting to those close to him. For the most part, and especially around strangers, Ciel upholds the ‘I’m in control of the situation’ attitude. Though it has been seen that he does panic more when the situation becomes out of control and he is without his demon butler. This does not happen very much in the manga. There's that whole 'never leave my side' thing that prevents the demon from leaving.
Even though this, Ciel is... warped to say the least... When possible, he does what is most right, morally, and yet what would also benefit his position the most. He tends to be able to find this middleground thanks to Sebastian most of the time.
Speaking on Sebastian, the boy is simply useless without him. He can hardly properly dress himself, can’t cook, trusts that others will do his bidding if they are paid, and in general, has no defense without the demon. (As stated earlier, this does not happen often in the manga. And most of the time Sebastian isn't there, it's on Ciel's orders.) He has been shown to use a handgun from time to time, but Sebastian is really his greatest weapon. As I've mentioned before, he has ordered Sebastian to never betray him and never leave his side. This boils down to a couple of things: one being Ciel is completely spoiled. Two: he doesn’t want, nor need, to be alone, as he gets into unwanted trouble. It has been shown that he does care for Sebastian’s well being (Like when the demon is injured by Grell... And then later Undertaker.) and is even comforted by his presence (Asking Sebastian to stay with him until he falls asleep. This is another one of those child-like traits that comes forth when he is on his own.)
And yet at the same time, he also. doesn't care. A quick note on their ... relationship. Ciel sees Sebastian as his most useful chess piece, thus important and needed. Sebastian sees Ciel as... dinner. The two are, obviously, cordial--if you can call Ciel's bratty, spoiled behaviors cordial. But most importantly, the contract they hold makes them work together. Ciel is shown to troll the shit out of the Butler any time he can get the chance. There is one instance where Sebastian admits how he loves cats much more than dogs, to which Ciel promptly barks. And Sebastian is no better! Having Ciel dress up as a lady to lure in a creeper, using him as bait, forcing him into that circus situation, the whole murder mystery at the Phantomhive manor arc which I did not include because the canon point is earlier... Their relationship is playful at times, and more serious in others. I think it boils down to what works for the both of them at the moment.
The traumatic experience that Ciel went through with losing his parents has caused him many problems in his personality. First and foremost, his views are extremely jaded, and he tends to act like more of an adult than he is. The boy is only thirteen years old, and his childhood was literally stolen away from him at ten. Even still the inner child does come out from time to time. Ciel tends to get rather huffy in certain situations, especially when someone has pointed out his child-like behavior or appearance. Or he’s insulted. Or he’s picked up and carried… Okay, let’s make this simple: he gets huffy. He also tends to play very subtle pranks and jokes on Sebastian from time to time (Trying to snap a picture of him with a cursed camera, barking when Sebastian says he dislikes dogs…etc.). He also has a vast knowledge of the company and its products, mostly from happy childhood memories.
A few other random traits about this kid... Ciel is needy, even though he doesn't think so. He detests spicy foods, but adores sweets and is often spoiled by them. He has asthma, inherited from his mother. He is allergic to cats, even though his butler adoooooorres them.
Moving onto the strengths and weaknesses... Well... Ciel's 13 bloody years old. He doesn't have much. Here it is, nice and in bullet form!
Strengths:
ჶSebastian
ჶHis contract with Sebastian.
ჶEducated
ჶCalculating
ჶHighly logical
Weaknesses:
ჶ… Sebastian.
ჶUseless on his own
ჶChild-size and sometimes behavior gets him in trouble
ჶLoyalty to the Queen
Why should that character be in this game: For OCs only.
Why do you want to continue their history here: For characters from other games only.
For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:
Have you read up on how the game works?: Yes'm! Network is Flaming Ferret, and Ciel can take missions, manipulate people into giving him money (I.e. beg), or steal to get da monies.
1st person sample:
[Maybe if he glares hard enough, these daft people will understand.] Do you not speak English? I told you, I'm not signing anything which would tie me to this... metal heap! I am an Earl. I will not be subjected do such atrocities!
[Crowded rooms, work, HAHAHA good luck! ]
I grow tired of this. Sebastian! Where is that wretched butler?
[When no one responds, nor does he hear the sickening velvety voice of that demon, the magnitude of his situation begins to sink in.]
[Were these beasts telling the truth? His home, gone? The boy calls for his butler one more time. To no avail. Ciel seems to have no chance but to cooperate. But oooohhh when that butler shows up, he's a dead demon walking.]
... Explain to me these ridiculous forms. [Defeat is a bitter enemy.]
3rd person sample:
What complete idiocy was this? Complete nonsense. Telling him his home had been destroyed, that he knew no one aboard this monstrous atrocity, that he had no servants, no help, and definitely no butler. That was definitely not something Ciel was okay with. And definitely made this whole transition more difficult. What idiocy.
So with a box in his arms, Ciel navigated his way through the corridors of the Thor, glaring begrudgingly at those that would come to pass him. Who could blame the child? Still, the Phantomhive boy was not one to mourn, or cry, or show anything but agitation on such a situation. Perhaps that wretched butler of his was simply stalling. It was something the boy certainly didn't put past that demon... Perhaps patience was required in such a place. This was among the stars, after all.
So Ciel would eventually arrive at his temporary home. He was simply outraged that they would force an earl such as himself to stay in these conditions. Small, cramped rooms with people he hardly knew and/or cared about... And who knew what they were? Scoffing, Ciel turned the key and entered this dump of a place, discontent all over his face. Hope you enjoy living with such a brat, new roomies.
